Learn More About Ms. Lee

Teaching a young child how to strike properly, be aware of their surroundings, how to handle situations with other children are all components of the program at a kid-friendly pace. It is explained to young children on the mat about why they are learning Krav Maga and what is it used for.  They are instructed to never use this on siblings or friends as a joke.

Our classes for children ages 8 through 14 teach a multitude of strikes (punches, kicks, elbows, knees) as well as self-defense techniques (chokes, grabs, etc.) at a much faster, intense pace. Our students are taught when and under what circumstances they are allowed to use what they learn – practicing on friends and siblings for fun is not acceptable.

As children learn Krav Maga, they gain the ability to protect one’s self, a high level of discipline, respect for self and others, the ability to focus and the self-confidence to act. Students in training often carry these qualities into other areas of their life, particularly in their school work, time management and how to handle situations with other kids.  Students are constantly encouraged to use their voice and start speaking up about situations that may be happening to them at school or in their lives.

Our belief is that every child has the right to defend themselves and may only use Krav Maga if absolutely necessary, meaning that they have no other choice.

It is important for kids to recognize when and how to remove themselves from bad or uncomfortable situations before they become physical. Using your voice to get out of the situation and then going to a parent or teacher is the first step, physically defending themselves comes last if they have no choice.

The unfortunate truth is that bullying and aggressive situations exist and is beginning at a younger age. Being bullied is both physically and emotionally damaging. It is extremely important for children to know how to defend oneself in a bullying and/or aggressive situation.

Reminders to Kids…..

  • Always use your voice to others and advocate for yourself
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • React and strike if we have no other choice and then get to safety
  • Keep all teachers and adults aware of what happened or what is happening to you
  • Never use power against power
  • Rely on striking properly and hitting vulnerable targets, if necessary
  • There is natural fear in an attack, we don’t want to panic, freeze and be afraid to fight
  • Be aware and ready because the attacker might have “friends” that want to attack

Krav Maga is the art of real-world self-defense. There are no tournaments or Katas in Krav Maga. The art uses a ranked/belted system in order to separate basic material from advanced material. Once a student gains proficiency of the material, they are given the opportunity to test. Belts are earned and never given. A student must represent their rank, not let their rank represent them.   Learning Krav Maga takes much time, hard work, dedication and perseverance to push through difficulties. The student should invest their time and a commitment into their training.
